Gentle slopes, landscaping, seedbed cover
View detailsWoven coir geotextile, also sold as coir netting, coir mesh or coir bhoovastra, is an open-weave mesh of twisted coir yarn, spun from coconut husk fibre and woven on automatic and manual looms. Laid over bare soil, it holds topsoil and seed in place, breaks the force of rain and slows the water running across the surface.
The open weave lets seedlings grow straight through. As the roots knit the soil together, the coir breaks down and returns to the ground, leaving established vegetation and nothing synthetic behind.
Keeps topsoil and seed in place on bare, newly graded slopes.
Breaks rain impact and slows water moving across the surface.
The open weave lets seedlings root straight through the mesh.
Coir absorbs water, keeping the seedbed damp for germination.
Drapes closely over uneven surfaces with no gaps for water to find.
Cut to shape on site and pinned down with simple hand tools.
Breaks down once vegetation takes over. No plastic left behind.
HDPE-wrapped and labelled by grade and lot.

We sample each production lot and send it to an independent laboratory. These are the properties measured, the method used, and what each one tells you. The report carries the lot number printed on your labels and travels with the shipment.

| Property tested | Method | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Mass per unit area | IS 15868 / ASTM D5261 | Confirms the grade (GSM) you ordered |
| Thickness | IS 15868 / ASTM D5199 | Consistency of weave and yarn |
| Wide-width breaking load and elongation | ASTM D4595 | Strength in both directions, in kN/m, and stretch before failure |
| Mesh size | IS 15868 | Opening between yarns, which governs seed and soil retention |
| Apparent opening size (AOS) | ASTM D4751 | Largest soil particle that can pass through |
| CBR puncture resistance | ASTM D6241 | Resistance to stones and loads pressing through |
| Permeability | ASTM D4491 | How freely water passes through the fabric |
| Water absorption and swell | IS 15868 | How much moisture the coir holds for the seedbed |
The right material depends on the slope, the water and how long protection is needed. Here is where woven coir sits.

Standard practice for this product. Your project drawings and local specifications always take priority.
Grade the slope, remove stones, roots and clods, then seed and fertilise so the mesh can sit in full contact with the soil.
Bury the top edge in a trench about 15 cm deep at the crest, pin it, backfill and compact.
Unroll downhill, not across, keeping the mesh in contact with the soil. Overlap neighbouring rolls by about 10–15 cm.
Fix with U-pins or wooden pegs in a grid, closer on steeper slopes and along every overlap and edge.
Woven coir geotextile is specified wherever bare soil has to hold until vegetation can take over.
Coir yarn spun from the fibre of coconut husks, woven into an open mesh. It is entirely natural fibre, with nothing synthetic woven in.
Coir is one of the most durable natural fibres, but service life depends on climate, moisture and the grade used. It is designed to protect the soil while vegetation establishes, then break down. Tell us your site conditions and we will recommend a grade to match.
It depends mainly on slope steepness and whether water flows over the area. Lighter grades suit gentle slopes and landscaping; heavier grades suit steep cuttings, channels and banks. Try the Grade Finder or send us your site data.
Standard rolls are 2, 3 or 4 m wide and 25 or 50 m long. Other sizes are made to order, and we help you choose the roll size that wastes least on your area.
Yes. The open weave is the point: seed is sown under or over the mesh and seedlings root straight through it.
Each roll is HDPE-wrapped and labelled by grade and lot. Independent lot test reports can travel with the shipment on request.
Usually, yes. Woven coir geotextile is the technical name. Coir netting, coir mesh, coconut netting and, in India, coir bhoovastra are trade names for the same open-weave product. Compare offers by weight (GSM) and test values rather than by name.
