Firm-fill log
Packed firmer than the standard log, so it gives more protection from the moment it is installed. Published guidance notes that densely packed rolls give more initial protection, while looser rolls can be planted more heavily.
- FillFirmer-packed coir
- Diameter30 to 50 cm
- Length3 to 6 m
- PlantingLighter than standard
Best for
- Channel edges with moderate flow
- Shorelines exposed to wind-driven waves
- Banks that need protection before plants establish
- Bottom rows of multi-row installations

Reference figures: Massachusetts Coastal Zone Management (sizes, life), Mississippi Watershed Management Organization (staking, planting), Alaska Department of Fish and Game (where they work). Your logs are built and confirmed to project.
How much do you need?
One row of logs. Stakes estimated at two per end plus one about every 30 cm, alternating sides. Adjust spacing to your site.
Sizes
Sizes are agreed per project. Send us drawings, lengths or areas and we will confirm the specification and quantities before quoting.
Laying it right
- 01Prepare the bedClear rocks and debris so the log touches the soil along its whole length. Work at low water.
- 02Bed it inSet the log at the base of the bank, around the normal water level, in a trench. Deeper bedding resists being lifted.
- 03Stake both sidesWooden stakes about 5 × 5 cm and 0.9–1.2 m long: two at each end, then alternating sides about every 30 cm.
- 04Tie and plantTie across the log between stakes, drive stakes flush, lace logs end to end and bury the ends. Plant plugs about every 30 cm.

About Firm-fill log
How much firmer is the fill?
Fill density is agreed for each project and confirmed before dispatch. Tell us the site exposure and we will recommend a density.
Is a firm-fill log suitable for strong currents?
It is our most robust log, but coir logs are not recommended for high-velocity areas. Share your design flows and we will tell you honestly if a log is the right tool.
Can I plant into it?
Yes, though a firmer log takes planting less readily than a standard one.
